Born in Scotland, raised in New Jersey, Walter Brooks was an art director, illustrator, graphic designer, print maker and painter. His work includes cover art and design that sold countless books, watercolors that capture the coast of Maine, and woodcut prints of a wide variety of subjects.
We do not have a complete record of the work he did. Examples of his early graphic design, advertising art, cover art and art direction were retained for a while, but then tossed out–by him–in order to have space to work in a small studio. We have a better record of his prints and paintings. Although we do not have images of all of his 100+ paintings, we have many and will add them as we find them. The objective of this website is to compile and display as much of Walter Brooks’ work as possible, in order to demonstrate the scope and diversity of his talent as an artist.
